Launch of Singapore Stories: Pathways and Detours in Art at National Gallery Singapore (NGS)

National Gallery Singapore's new exhibition, Singapore Stories: Pathways and Detours in Art, marks the re-opening of the DBS Singapore Gallery following its first major revamp since inception. This key highlight of the Gallery’s 10th anniversary explores Singapore’s art history from the 19th century to the 1990s, tracing pivotal moments such as Singapore’s independence, community building, and urban development.
Anchored on the works of Singapore artists, the exhibition shows how their works reflect and respond to the evolving narratives of our society. The exhibition features both familiar and lesser known artists and broadens representation, enabling more Singaporeans to see themselves in the artists and the artworks displayed, enabling a sense of belonging.
Timed with SG60, the exhibition presents a refreshed narrative, celebrating the resilience, creativity, and diversity of Singapore and its art history. It also marks a step towards the future, with the gallery transformed into a renewed space for art, dialogue, and connection.
