The Future of YOUth: Launch of PA Youth Charter
Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong launched the PA Youth Charter - an action plan for young people to harness their passion, be active changemakers and drive positive change in their communities - at the Future of Youth event on Saturday, 1 March 2025.
The PA Youth Charter had 18 statements spread over three core pillars identified by youths – Mental Health, Racial and Religious Harmony, as well as Sustainability and Environment. It was developed after a 15-month outreach effort by the PA Youth Movement (PAYM) where they engaged in 212 conversations, gathering 127,000 voices of youths from all walks of life aged between 15 and 35.
PM Wong said that the Charter brought together ideas from PAYM’s outreach discussions. He said, “So, the Charter is not just about words; it is not just a document. It is a call to action – it is a blueprint to shape the community and the Singapore you want for yourselves and your future.… to all our young people, I say Singapore’s future is not just something you inherit; it is something you will create through every action you take, starting today.
He also announced that PAYM would commit a million volunteer hours in 2025 in celebration of SG60, and there would also be a special SG60 PA Engagement Grant of up to $3,000 provided to each Youth Network for young people to lead projects on themes that resonate with them. Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and PA Deputy Chairman, Mr Edwin Tong and Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information and for Health, Dr Janil Puthucheary, Ms Nadia Samdin and Mr Xie Yao Quan also attended the launch event.
